TOTE BAG- “Inspired from traditional Asian fabrics, Japanese, Chinese and Indonesian, we sought to breathe new life into old world prints by giving them a contemporary voice and context in which to exist. We reinterpreted and collaged various graphic elements from both cultures along with our logo, the laurel and crossbones, to merge the sensibilities of the east with a touch of the west, combining and translating aesthetics across a common visual language. The idea is to engage both cultures in a symbiotic, visual dialogue in which they can fluently speak to each other.” ~ SURFACE TO AIR
T-SHIRT- “I developed several designs by looking to the past to find one or several elements which felt distinctly Asian to me. The mountain-like motif commonly associated with traditional Chinese landscape paintings against white, the proverbial blank canvas, was a natural choice of color, particularly against a bright blue hand-silkscreen of the iconic Tiger beer logo. Designed to be worn by both men and women, the oversized length of the t-shirt is intended to drape over the body, reminiscent of long gowns worn during ancient times.” ~ MARY PING
